The 4 components of habit change
Knowing a lot about health is one thing, but actually IMPLEMENTING these healthy habits into your life is a whole other story. Why? Simply put, humans are wired to not like change. We seek comfort in what feels familiar and will always choose to move toward what feels good and move away from what doesn’t.
So if you’ve been having trouble committing to your health goals and keep crawling back to your old, unhealthy habits, this is actually good news. Because at the end of the day, you are following what’s most pleasurable to you at the time, and even though these choices might not currently align with your long-term goals, we now know that your brain is working properly. Yay! You’re human! And this makes our work together - this whole let’s try and change my lifestyle thing - a whole lot simpler.
The key to long-lasting behavioral change is shifting the neurological connection between what you do and what’s pleasurable to you. When these two components align, there’s no willpower involved. You’re simply gravitating toward what feels good to you and the improvement in your health becomes a lovely side effect.
Rather than trying to adopt someone else’s lifestyle plan, playing by someone else’s rules, hoping that it will work even if, you’re simply living your life. No rules. No restrictions. No more ‘shoulds’ and ‘shouldn’ts.” Just you, waking up every morning as your most aligned, energized, authentic self.
How do we do this?
Together, we move through the four main components to turning healthy habits into behaviors that last:
Uncovering your desired outcome and vision (Obstacles, goals, Creating your vision): It’s time to get you back in the driver’s seat of your life and break free from the self-sabotage cycle so you can reignite your spark for life and start feeling like YOU again. Together, we will uncover what’s been stopping you, slowing you down, or keeping you from having the health you want, and develop a powerful vision for your transformation and what it will mean for you, your health, and for your life.
Connecting to your WHY: This is probably the most important step, and yet it’s the one thing missing from most coaching programs out there. Have you ever set your mind on something with every intention of following through and then you either lose interest or life gets in the way? Motivation, support, and knowledge are important in the transformational process, but until you truly connect with your WHY, chances are you aren’t going to get lasting health results. Together, we explore what is driving you to make changes in your health now that you haven’t made in the past. We look at how up-leveling your health will make a difference in your life, uncovering what gets to unfold for you in other areas of your life when you step into your healthiest self.
Gaining body wisdom: Our bodies are smarter than we give them credit for. They tell us exactly what we want and need in order to feel good. The issue is that somewhere along the way, we’ve become so disconnected from our bodies, making it feel impossible to listen to what it’s trying to tell us. In our work together, you will learn how to connect with your body wisdom and build your intuition, bringing you to a new level of awareness. You will start to recognize the signals of the body so you know exactly what your body needs and wants at all times to feel its best - no more guesswork over here, just living your ultimate life.
Setting up the conditions for inevitable success: The overall goal here is to make your life easier, not add to the chaos. Together, we move past the anxiety and overwhelm that comes from feeling stuck where you are and step into a life of empowerment, confidence, and ease. If you feel like you have to choose between your health plan and seeing your friends, enjoying time with your family, or succeeding at your job, it’s not going to last. Why? Because at the end of the day, it’s not fun, and it’s not sustainable. We are naturally inclined to do things that pleasure us and make us feel good, so if you’re not truly ENJOYING your health journey, you will inevitably fall back into your old patterns and get more of what you don’t want. The solution is to remove unnecessary tension and set up the conditions for inevitable success so that follow-through becomes easy.
